On October 31-November 1, 2016, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) held its Self-Study Institute. Attendees represent schools with Self-Study Reports due in 2018-19, along with a much smaller number for those with reports due in 2017-18 and 2019-20. Participants from colleges and universities from throughout the Middle States region, including Hungary, Lebanon, and Puerto Rico, United Arab Emirates were in attendance.

The conference discussed a range of topics including the new MSCHE standards, the changes to the accreditation process that are in the process of being finalized, the Self-Study process, and Self-Study design. Facilitating the sessions were representatives from the fifteen Collaborative Implementation Project (CIP) institutions. The CIP schools are engaging in the Self-Study process under the new MSCHE standards, sharing their experiences with one another and other MSCHE institutions, and working with MSCHE staff to address issues as they arise.

At one of the sessions, Jacqueline LeBlanc, Vice President for Planning & Assessment at LIM College, one of the CIP institutions, addressed “closing the loop” in assessment. She provided two kinds of charts that illustrate how her institution was using assessment results and translating them into institutional improvement.
