Record Warmth Brings Out Frogs in the NYC Area

January 11-12 saw record warmth in the northern Middle Atlantic and southern New England regions. New York City’s Central Park registered high temperatures of 69 and 68 respectively. At Boston, it was even warmer with record high temperatures of 70 and a January record 74° (the first time on record there with two consecutive 70° days in January).

The January warmth, follows a year that was the second warmest on record globally. Only 2016 was warmer. The 2010s were also the warmest decade on record, by far, globally.

Back in the New York City area, the warmth brought out insects and frogs. Two photos from the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx are below:

The following weekend, a small storm brought 2.1” snow to New York City and a general 2”-4” snowfall across the wider area.
