Autumn Sky

PRINT AS PDF

With the sun dipping steadily lower in the sky with each passing day, the deepening shadows of autumn are now contributing to an overflowing harvest of color in the sky. In advance of the rising sun, the high- and mid-level clouds are often illuminated in a dazzling display of purples, reds, golds, and yellows. As with autumn’s ever fashionable display of color among the leaves, the sky’s exhibition is one that should not be missed.

On still days, especially when the chilly breath of an increasingly not-so-distant winter is in the air, fog can cloak valleys, fields, and water bodies. When the early morning fog meets the first rays of the rising sun, the two can create a magical duet of mystery and soft color.

Below are a few photos that provide a glimpse of the majestic colors of the autumn sky.
