An Arctic cold front moved across the New York City region early Saturday morning bringing a coating of snow. Afterward, the temperature fell throughout the day and wind gusts past 45 mph added to the chill. February 7-8, 2026 saw Bridgeport, Central Park, Islip, JFK Airport, LaGuardia Airport, Newark, and White Plains record single-digit lows on two consecutive days for the first time since January 30-31, 2019. On Sunday morning, the temperature plunged to an icy 3° in New York City. During the 16-day period from January 24-February 8, New York City saw the temperature average below 20°. The last 16-day period with a mean temperature below 20° occurred during January 11-26, 1982.

The cold will now begin to ease. Near normal and somewhat above normal temperatures will likely develop later this weekend.

On account of the persistent cold highlighted by several waves of severe cold, the Hudson River has now filled up with ice even south of the George Washington Bridge. Some photos from Sunday morning follow.
