December 26-27, 2025 saw New York City experience its biggest snowstorm in nearly four years. A total of 4.3” (10.9 cm) of snow fell. The last time a bigger storm occurred was January 28-29, 2022 when New York City received 8.5” (21.6 cm) of snow from a blizzard that buried parts of Long Island under more than 24.0” (61.0 cm) of wind-driven snow. Even as the snowstorm came just after the Christmas holiday, it still created festive scenes.
Following New York City’s coldest December in fifteen years and its snowiest December in five years, January 1 saw a snow squall deposit 0.5” (1.3 cm) of snow. That was New York City’s first measurable snowfall on New Year’s Day since 1987.
