A study published in the March 9, 2018 issue of Science revealed that fake news spreads faster than true news. Key findings included:

• Falsehood spread “significantly farther, faster, deeper, and more broadly” than truth
• Truth took 6 times as long to reach 1,500 people as falsehood
• False political news traveled faster, more broadly, and more deeply than any other
  category
• People, not bots, were largely responsible
