During the afternoon of January 30, 2019, an Arctic cold front roared eastward through the New York City area. As the front raced across the City and its boroughs, an intense snow squall produced a brief period of whiteout conditions. During the height of the snow squall, the wind gusted as high as 46 mph in the Bronx.

In its wake, the temperature plunged to the coldest readings in nearly three years. 2° in New York City’s Central Park. During the day, the thermometer topped out at just 16°.
