The New York City area experienced its most severe June heatwave on record. The June 23-25 period saw the highest composite mean high temperature for the New York City area and the highest 3-day composite mean high temperature. No other event comes close. It even beat synthetic 1- and 3-day periods constructed from the pre-2024 hottest 1-day and 3-day periods regardless of when they occurred in June.
Prior to 2025, the highest June temperature recorded at JFK Airport was 99°. JFK Airport soared to 102° on two consecutive days. Islip demolished its previous June mark of 96° with a high of 101°. New York City’s Central Park registered three consecutive 80° or above minimum temperatures, tying the all-time record set during August 9-11, 1896 and tied on July 5-7, 1908, and July 18-20, 2023. All three such days were the earliest on record.
Newark saw its first-ever stretch of three consecutive 100° or above highs in June (earliest had been July 2-4, 1966). Newark tied its June record of 103° and had an astounding 85° low temperature.
