A Visit to the Tanah Lot Temple

During the summer, I traveled to Indonesia. Among the places I visited were Java and Bali. It was a memorable trip that featured interesting sites, a walk among monkeys in a forest, and even a 5.9 aftershock.

While on Bali, I visited the Tanah Lot rock formation. On this rock formation is the Hindu temple, Pura Tanah Lot or Tanah Lot Temple. The Temple’s construction followed the visit of the Hindu monk DangHyang Nirartha to Bali in the 16th century.

Even as the Temple lies amidst the salt water of the Indian Ocean, it features a freshwater spring. The water is used as holy water to bless visitors.
