Last Wednesday, Lehman College President José Cruz was formally inaugurated into the office by William C. Thompson, Jr., Chair of the City University of New York Board of Trustees. The ceremony was attended by Lehman College faculty, administrators, staff, and students (including a sizable contingent of student-athletes).
Those making remarks included Dr. Rima Brushi, former University of Puerto Rico President Antonio Garcia Padilla, California State University Fullerton President Mildred Garcia, Education Trust Founder and President Emeritus Kati Haycock, CUNY Chancellor James B. Milliken, William C. Thompson, Jr., and Lehman Student Government President Victoria Antonetti. In his Inaugural Address, President Cruz outlined Lehman College’s “90×30” initiative.
Under that initiative, Lehman College aims to double the number of degrees and certificates it grants to 90,000 by 2030. This initiative is aimed at helping increase educational attainment in the Bronx with the intent of materially improving the Borough’s employment, wages, and standard of living above what it might otherwise be.
Achieving that goal would further Lehman College’s mission of serving “the Bronx and surrounding region as an intellectual, economic, and cultural center” and its vision of contributing “to the economic development of the region.”
