On Friday, October 7, 2022, Lehman College held a Student Success Summit concerning full-time, first-time students. The summit’s theme was “Beyond the Pandemic: Deepening the First Year Experience.”
The summit was well-attended. Presentations included “Supporting First Year Students: The National Landscape,” “Overview of Trends on KPIs,” The Learning Recovery Program: Lessons Learned,” “Innovation in Teaching: Lessons from Gateway Math and English,” and “Re-Imagining the First Year Experience: Discussion.”
A highlight of the event was the film, “Personal Statement,” that chronicled the experiences, challenges, and ultimate successes of three students from Brooklyn who chose to pursue and ultimately attain a college education. Two of the three students—Karoline Jiminez and Christine Rodriguez—participated in a panel discussion moderated by Vice President of Student Affairs, Jermaine Wright.
The powerful panel discussion put faces and lives to the approaches and metrics used to build a foundation for student success. It provided an impactful experience that centered the college experience on the lives, well-being, and success of their students.
