Barring an improbable development, the 2022-2023 snow season will go into the record books as New York City’s least snowy season on record with just 2.3” of snow. The old record of 2.8” was set in 1972-1973. Although it is far too soon to look ahead to next winter, New York City has never had two consecutive winters with less than 10.0” of snow. At the same time, New York City is in a climate regime that is quite different from that of most of its historical record. There is also the possibility of a super El Niño event next winter. But that’s still far into the future.
