The Middle States Commission on Higher Education’s Standard I concerns an institution’s mission and goals. Under the new accreditation process, Standard I has not yet been widely cited for follow-up. During June 2019, 11% of follow-up cases involved Standard I (among other standards).
Under the standards that were adopted in 2014, the two principal reasons for follow-up under Standard I are:
- Periodic assessment of the relevancy and effectiveness of the institution’s mission and
goals: 67% of Standard I follow-up cases - Clearly defined mission and goals developed through appropriate collaborative participation: 33% of Standard I follow-up cases
In two-thirds of cases, follow-up occurs in conjunction with the Annual Institutional Update (AIU). The remainder of cases requires a supplemental information report.
